Suunto Spartan Sport HR Review Facts
Suunto, an adventure Sports Performance Company, has diving gears, accessories, premium and sports class watches to offer. Prior to the launch of Suunto Spartan Sports HR, its sports watch category just didn’t do justice for the company. Some watches were providing real-time HR monitor, while Suunto relied on a separate HR monitor. In 2017, Suunto partnered with Valencell. Now Spartan’s line of watches provided HR monitoring with an exercise log feature on the wrist, making Suunto up to par.
Suunto Spartan Sports HR has a barometer, a compass, and it can lock-in GPS signals quicker than any other brand. It offers 80 preset sports modes to choose from, the highest in its class. The user can create a new mode on the site and transfer that to his watch with a simple synchronization. The web portal is ideal for an activity enthusiast with its robust features plus an additional third party app enhancement. The most distinct feature that impressed us was “Heat Map”.
Suunto’s GPS accuracy is similar to Garmin Fenix 5
or FR935 but it is much quicker. The user can select positioning options to either keep GPS signals coming in forever or to connect GPS after timely intervals to save some power. By the way, you shouldn’t worry about the battery life if you’re not doing a cross country marathon, as this watch provides 26 hours when the GPS is active.
Size / Weight
The watch feels heavy and actually looks heavy. But it is not. It is actually lighter than the Fenix 5S and 5X and weighs 70 grams almost equal to Fenix 5. The watch looks bigger because of Suunto’s not so great design.
Heart Rate Monitoring
Other brands do provide Heart Rate sensors
but they might not be as precise as this watch. Suunto Spartan Sports doesn’t take a generic Heart Rate sensor as they are slow, inaccurate and ineffective. Instead, Suunto had partnered with Valencell; the leading biometric data monitoring sensing company. This sensor can provide data log for every second during your exercise.
